A hard fought game for the two local sides

M1s 2 - 3 Chester 4 (a)
Wrexham were going away for this big derby day. The day was plagued with all weathers including some hail before the match started that made the pitch very slippery. Wrexham began the game in ascendancy by winning a short corner very early on. Aidan Davidson stepped up and drag flicked the ball into the bottom right corner. However, as the half wore on, mistakes crept in and it was an uneasy display with a few chances handed over to Chester. A ball trickled into the area, and Olly Sowter’s miss-controlled kick landed to their striker at the penalty spot who struck it home. Unlucky to draw level at halftime for Wrexham.
Keep the pressure going was the main pointer from the team talk. However, 10 minutes into the second half, Wrexham let in two. A ball struck into the D managed to bypass everyone but for Chester’s attacker who bobbled the ball into the corner. Chester’s 3rd goal came from a counter and the strike teased over Sowter’s stick. A battle to comeback for Wrexham at 3-1. Some good wide play landed Nathan Samuels a chance to shoot but Chester’s defender flopped like a salmon at his feet and managed to take the ball away from him. Johnny was forced wide from the rushed keeper. He cleverly took it round him but the small window of the goal left one of the Chester defenders to clear his shot from the goal line. Back came Wrexham who won several short corners. And back again was Aidan Davidson who hit another beautiful drag flick into the net. The comeback was on. Harry Tourret was played into the area from a nice pass through the middle, he saw Gaz Roberts on the other side. Tourret passed it across only for their defender to get a touch on it as Roberts slid agonisingly past the ball. 3-2 was as it stayed. A good fought game by the end, but unfortunately the damage was done and Wrexham could not get that last goal.
Motm: Aiden Davidson, for two magnificent goals.
Donkey: Olly Sowter, a very unfortunate game, but definitely a learning one!
