V Rhyl and District 1s

Brilliant conditions for a game of hockey. Rhyl were already down a player so Wrexham very much started on the front foot. There was a lot of joy for winger Nathan Samuels down the right hand side who jinxed his way into the D and passed the ball in for a brilliant finish from Harry Tourret. Another attack and another quick finish. This time, red haired Johnny Miller snuck into the D and finished into the corner off a loose ball. Great passes from left to right continued pressure on the Rhyl defence and Samuels ran up the right again and found Tourret for another great goal. Up the other way, Rhyl went on the counter from Wrexham’s napping defence and won a short corner. A drag flick finding the top corner and luckily not Ben Morrison’s face. Rhyl found some form but could not find a way past Tom Czismadea’s hard tackling before the half finished.

Wrexham pushed back for the second half. The team talk was for Wrexham to have a bit more calm on the ball and it was a mix bag. The attack continued for Wrexham and Matthew Whelan with a slalom run found Johnny ‘Knuckles’ Miller who hit a cool finish into the corner of the goal. Wrexham relaxed and Rhyl’s lone striker found his way straight into the D and in between two defenders got hit by the keeper Olly Sowter. With some brilliant saves throughout, Sowter unfortunately could not stop the flick that was given. Rhyl had more confidence and their relentless striker took on 3 defenders and rocketed a ball into the D where his teammate deflected it into the top corner. Unfazed by the goals, Wrexham took advantage of the extra man and passed it around Rhyl. Samuels again took on his man and found the P spot where Harry Tourret deflected it into the corner for his hattrick. No major celebration, very humble for his first hattrick for the club! Dan Thomas spotted the run of Morrison on the left and his speed could not quite make it. However pressure from the midfield overturned the ball, Morrison to Thomas, Thomas to Whelan on the edge who battered the ball for Samuels to deflect above the keeper into the top corner. Beautiful goal! A turn for Aiden Davidson to carry on his goal scoring, not through a short corner though. A clever run to the left hand side of the D and reversed into the corner. Good game by all.

Motm - Olly Sowter. Playing against 10 men, the defence still needed the heroics of Sowter again to keep the score as it was. Very strong performance.
Dotd - Johnny Miller. Firstly, revealing his hair to be red and crazy like Chuckie from the rugrats. Secondly, putting it into space buns for the majority of the game. And not coming for some chips and sausage at The Acton.
