An away day to the sunny beaches of Rhyl before our two week break. Wrexham in white started with the ball and Matthew Whelan with the traditional scoop upfield to start the game. The first 20 mins was to be a dominant display from Wrexham. Goals from Nathan Samuels at the back post from a great team display, Jonny arriving at the far post for the second and the ever present Richy Read to lift the ball high into the roof of the net after a well worked short corner routine. However, Rhyl was undeterred and came back into the game. Great work by their 17 zig zagged into the D and found the corner. Another came from a breakaway, and as the shot came in the, defence held strong. But as the ball trickled out, on the reverse the Rhyl midfielder reversed the ball into the corner.

3-2 at the break. Wrexham heads started to go down but after some encouraging words Wrexham fired again. After withstanding some pressure Rhyl conceded. The pace of the wingers was a lot for Rhyl’s fullbacks to deal with. Jonny Miller and Nath Samuels peppered the goal and Miller found another to make it 4 with passionate celebrations to keep a two goal cushion. Rhyl like a Take That concert came back again. But this time, Olly Sowter with a fantastic quadruple save first on the floor, then the ball hit high onto his glove came back out and knocked it down with his stick and just managed to get the ball away from their attacker. Wrexham went up the other end and Andrew Nelhans back from University who’d made a lot of brilliant forward passes cropped up at the top of the D cracked a shot underneath the diving keeper. Nath Samuels apart from his mullet and hot headed illegal challenges was having a great game. He used his pace to jinx his was passed the keeper and tuck it into an empty net for 6. Unfortunately for him, some enthusiastic defending got him a green card and a nice big nudge to the ribs for good measure.
