Beautiful conditions for the rearranged game against the then top of the table clash against derby rivals Denbigh. It was a tough affair with both sides battling it out. Wrexham made a couple of mistakes and Denbigh were very good at countering only to narrowly miss a few times. A short corner was given to Denbigh, a shot on goal parried gently to their captain who dispatched it well. On the counter, Wrexham got a few chances of their own. One rocket shot taken by Harry Tourret, agonisingly defended off the line. Wrexham played out from the back and found a foot in D. The short corner taken by Wrexham’s Captain, Tom Csizmadia who pinged the ball onto the keepers foot. But the pure power on it still dribbled onto the backboard. Denbigh came again. Another short corner. Ball was passed around the D and a pass cut out by Dan Thomas led to a tackle-come-golf-shot that found the netting. HANG ON. Umpire whistle, technical first shot rather than a drag flick above the board resulted in a defensive-16 for Wrexham. Stayed at 1-1. Thomas got himself into bother after running away five yards and got in the way of a pass into the D. Short given away AND a green card.
Halftime. Whirlwind performance. Denbigh chose a very different style of play second half, aerials galore. Very little managed to trouble the Wrexham defence. It was the run through the middle and their quick feet that got most chances. Wrexham stayed stalwart. Denbigh throughout the game called for a lot of decisions without punishment. On pointing this out Thomas got another green card along with Denbigh’s number 50. The game was very edgy and near the end, a cross field ball to Thomas who almost got it to Nath Samuels at the back post for a poke into the goal but to no avail. Game finished 1-1 and it was a tight and fun affair.
