Nail biting match

This was a league winner decider against Sale. The game started at a fast pace with end to end hockey. Both teams played tough hockey using width and height effectively. Them minutes into the game Wrexham capitalised on a great passage of play with the Sale's keeper making a great initial save but Claudia Whittaker was on hand to take the second rebound off the keepers pads to put Wrexham into the lead. The many spectators who came to watch went wild when Wrexham went in front.

This did not last long as Sale were awarded a penalty corner which they converted it into a goal from an obvious well practiced routine. Play continued end to end but both team's defence held strong and the score remained 1-1 at half-time.

A motivating half-time team talk from player, coach Delyth Sharples got the team in a determined mood. Wrexham came out with a passion to get the win and the forwards Claudia Whittaker and Megan Williams were beginning to outpace the Sale defence and 9 minutes into the second half Claudia Whittaker slammed in her 2nd goal again the supporters applauded the entertaining game. Wrexham were encouraged by the fabulous support from the spectators and when awarded a penalty corner Helen Bainbridge's first time shot was so fast the keeper had no chance to see the ball.

Sale seemed deflated and struggled with the pace of Claudia Whittaker, Megan Williams and twins Carro and Lottie Hulme. From a great pass from Nic Green to Carro Hulme who then passed it on to Claudia the shot was slammed into the back of the net for her hat-trick and Wrexham's 4th goal

The final score 4-1 which meant Wrexham gained the first position in the league for the first time in the history of the club.

Thanks to the supporters who made a massive difference to encourage the team, thanks to Mary Bainbridge who has umpired the matches throughout the season.
