A new initiative by Wrexham’s Women’s Section

Wrexham Glyndwr Women’s Hockey Team made their first ever appearance in the EH North West Super 6’s at King’s School, Macclesfield on Sunday. Although they knew that the opposition was from a division higher than they normally play in the North West, they made a very creditable performance having had little time for prior indoor practice. Indeed, it was a first experience for two of the younger players.
Brooklands Poynton and Fylde were the opposition and although Wrexham lost 9 – 1 and 5-1 respectively, they improved their indoor skills and tactics significantly over a short period of time. The scorers of the two goals for Wrexham were Helen Roberts and Claudia Royle, while Player of the Match for Wrexham was GK Meg Jones, who made a string of spectacular saves.
At the present time, Wrexham Glyndwr Hockey Club is thriving with 4 teams in action each weekend. The four teams (women and men) play in the English Hockey North West League. The Ladies are placed in Division 2 South and are currently lying 3rd while the 2nd team is in Division 5 West South and at the top of the League. The Men play in Division 5 West South lying 4th and Division 6 West South in 5th position
We also have several players in Welsh Teams who will be travelling far and wide over the next few months. Over 35, Rhiannon Sharples, over 40, Rachel Dathan, Sarah Fellows, Siobhan Henn, and Delyth Hughes. Over 45 Helen Bainbridge
We also have a Junior Section playing on Saturday mornings, so anyone wishing to join should look at the Wrexham Website for further information.
