M1s 3-2 Rhyl & District 1
Perfect conditions for the home game against the travelling purple Rhyl & District team. It was a strong start from Wrexham, playing away from the sun. Within two minutes, the midfield swept it from left to right and Jonny Miller dragged the opposition diagonally through the D. Muller played in Nathan Samuels who was left at the back post to first time sweep it under the keeper. More pressure kept Rhyl to short spells of counter attacks. Wrexham attacked again, Sam McCulloch played a short ball to Miller who motored off into the distance. He beat three people down the left hand side and slipped it under the diving keeper. Beautiful run.
Second half and earlier tempers started to flair…again. Decisions weren’t going well for Wrexham leading to a string of short corners. A well worked corner from Rhyl led to their first goal. Olly Sowter was on fine form and saved a few very good shots from Rhyl. Until another short corner, this time it dazzled the spectators with a drag flick into the top right corner. No stopping that one! With it levelled, Wrexham dug their heels in and pushed for the late goal. Even with Miller throwing his stick in defiance against a decision (earning a nice 5 mins on the sideline). Samuels had a really good spell down that right side and earned a short corner with 5 mins left. He stepped up and wrapped a drag flick past the diving keeper. Rhyl flung everything at the Wrexham defence; aerials galore, but they were picked off or crashed out the D. Wrexham held on for an important first 3 points of the season.
