M1s 7-2 Rhyl 1
Wrexham faced Rhyl 1s today, which we hoped would add another 3 points to our tally as we chase Runcorn 1s for the top spot in the league.
The game started off well for Wrexham, we was able to control the ball well however a few loose passes in the middle let the Rhyl defender hit a great but ILLEGAL chop hit over the top of the Wrexham defence into the path of their striker who was able to put it past Olly Sowter who really couldn’t have done much more.

Wrexham kept their heads up and went on to control the game scoring goal and after goal from some nice link up play between Gaz and Dan out wide to Nath and in Whelan and Andy Williams who finished their chances well. Rhyl came back at us with another aerial ball beating the Wrexham defence and again left Olly Sowter 1v1 with the Rhyl striker. Rhyl were unable to convert from the opportunity due to the HUGE feet of Matt Stephens blocking the shot on the line, he was saved by the whistle of the umpire, until a controversial yellow card left Wxm down to 10.

Wrexham regrouped after halftime and came out stronger with great teamwork and link up play for John, Nath and Gaz to punish the Rhyl keeper. As the second half came to an end emotions were high in the Rhyl side and Wrexham defence of Dai, Czis, Leo, Matt and Olly held out well against several physical Rhyl attacks. Wxm were able to defend several consecutive PCs well until being punished by a great drag flick to the top right corner.

Wrexham look to take this energy into next week’s game at home vs Denbigh 1s.
