M1s 1-0 Oxton 3
After results the previous week went Wrexham's way, they entered the weekend's game at home to Oxton back on top of the table and hopes of promotion in their own hands. With Wrexham FCs big FA cup game kicking off a couple hrs after pushback there was a real buzz around the ground. After an unusual request for a yellow ball to be used the game got under way with Oxton taking initial control, and threatening the Wrexham D. Once Wrexham had settled into the game they started to dictate the flow. The first real opportunity came from an aerial ball thrown from back to front by Matt Stephens collected by Iwan Thomas who beat the defender and drew the keeper. Thomas then picked out Gaz Roberts charging into the D from midfield but with the goal unguarded inexplicably missed the target. Wrexham continued to hold the possession without creating any clear chances. The opening goal came from a wonderful little scooped ball over the top from Dan Thomas picking out Iwan Thomas who with some lovely stick skills then slotted home from a tight angle. The final real opportunity of the half fell to Thomas again this time creating himself the shooting chance that cannon off the post with skipper Nathan Samuels unable to collect the rebound. The 2nd half was dominated by Wrexham possession with the midfield controlling the game. The defence kept things tight limiting Oxton to a couple of half chances,with goalkeeper Ollie Sowter saving comfortably.
Game management was employed brilliantly by Wrexham as the game pushed into the later stages, they had full control and probed for a 2nd without creating any clear cut opportunities.
A solid 1-0 keeps them 2 points clear with 3 to play!
