M1s 4-2 Clwb Hoci Eirias 2
After last week's disappointing open day defeat, Wrexham 1s opened their home fixtures against Eiras Park 2s. With a number of changes to the lineup, Wrexham started brightly with a couple of early half chances created by the lively Iwan Thomas and Nathan Samuals. Eiras then took the lead against the run of play, a quick break away resulting in a short corner with a solid routine ending in the 1st goal. Wrexham didn’t panic and stuck to their game plan. Some slick play saw Iwan Thomas take on the whole Eiras defence and finish nicely past the advancing goalkeeper. Eiras had a chance to retake the lead from the penalty spot after some pressure on the goalkeeper, Olly Sowter, led to him bringing down the forward. Sowter, however, redeemed himself with a brilliant save across to his left. Thomas scored again shortly afterwards to give Wrexham the advantage going into half time.
Into the 2nd half, and the opening goal came from Captain Nathan Samuals to give Wrexham breathing space. They should have put the game to bed when Thomas found himself rounding the keeper but failing to find an empty net. Eiras converted another short corner, but with time ticking down, a break away goal by Alex D confirmed the result. A 4-2 victory for Wrexham will give them confidence and proof they can compete at this level following their promotion.
