Denbigh Development 1-8 W2s
The ladies 2nd team travelled to the picturesque setting of Denbigh knowing that their goal tally could be greatly boosted today against a struggling development team.
Both teams started slowly,the visitors taking time to adjust to the slow Denbigh pitch.
There were some promising exchanges between Mia ,Bethan T and Hattie,who worried the Reds defence early,forcing early intervention from the Denbigh keeper.Despite Wrexham's possession in the opening few minutes a speedy counter attack by Denbigh found a high striker behind the outfield defence,who promptly mis-hit her strike in front of goal ,wrong footing Laila, who had gone to ground, while the ball bobbled painstakingly slowly over the visitor's goal line in the 8th minute .1-0
A buoyed Denbigh team and supporters were soon disappointed, as Wrexham started to play with more urgency and conviction ,10 mins gone and Harriet tore through the Denbigh defence on the right ,before drilling a decisive cross into the D for an easy putin for the well positioned Gemma B. 1-1
2 mins later following some great work from Mabli and Bethan T combining well again with Mia in the home team's final '25' before a speculative cross again finding the grateful Gemma B on the spot to slide the ball past the keeper .1-2
A relieved Wrexham,started to crank up the pressure on the home team,eventually paying off again in the 29th minute young Phoebe audaciously pinching the ball off the Denbigh keeper's pads and slotting it in the goal 1-3.
Phoebe nearly increased her tally just before the half time whistle after a strong clearance from defence by Bethan H picked out her namesake who fired a beautiful
ball into the D,Phoebe picking it up with her back to the Denbigh keeper,swiftly spun around to shoot at goal but denied this time.
The opening phase of the 2nd half saw Phoebe in the thick of it again , picking up a rebound after a barrage of shots from Mia and Gemma P , unfortunately the strike was disallowed this time for a stick infringement.
Wrexham,gathering in confidence and relaxing into the task picked up another goal after a blazing shot by Harriet was well saved by the home team's keeper,only to be ruthlessly dispatched into goal by a grateful Mia 1-4
9 mins played and a Wrexham short corner awarded,Mia again on target wirh the initial strike forcing a save but only into the path of the charging Bethan H who hammered the rebound into the goal. 1-5
Only 1 minute later ,with Wrexham seeming to penetrate the beleaguered home defence with increasing ease, Phoebe and Hattie combining well in the D until a now rampant Mia,released a scorching shot from the edge of the D .1-6
53 minutes elapsed before Mia completed her hattrick,this time only managing a soft tap in ,that positively trickled over the goal line ,but they all count anyway! This was Wrexham’s 7th goal
The visitors final goal fell in 60th minute, lovely midfield play from Abbie ,jinking past 3 Denbigh players before releasing a great pass to find Mia again who struck past the keeper 1-8
