W2s 2-3 Denbigh 1
The game started evenly with both sides testing their defence. Ceri Whitehead held the back 3 well , with Mabli Williams and Anna Sumbland playing either side of Ceri. From this effective defending Wrexham went into attack with great support play by Sophie Forgrave working one twos with Mabli. Denbigh started to settle on the water based pitch and in the 14th minute Denbigh were awarded a penalty corner. This was obviously a well practiced routine as the ball was slipped right to a Denbigh player, the shot took a deflection and they went into the lead 1-0.
Wrexham were not down hearted and fought back with some great play with Sophie and Gemma Phelps. The ball went to the right and Harriet Le Tissier slipped to the left corner of the goal to open Wrexham’s score. 1-1.
Before half time a penalty stroke was awarded. Sadly this was saved by keeper. The score was 1-1 at halftime.

The second half started much the same with both defence working hard to stop the opposition from scoring. The ball was driven into the left by Denbigh and a shot on goal was saved by Laila Harding in goal. The ball came back to Laila which again saved but then a melee in front of goal ensued and Denbigh puts away their 2nd goal. Beth’s Hughes and Abbie Whitehead created some great space and used their speed in the middle of the park linking well with Hattie Povey and Phoebe Moreland but couldn’t quite get that last shot in goal. From a break away by Denbigh they stretched the Wrexham defence and were able to side step Laila in goal put away a third goal 3-1. Wrexham again had flurries into the Denbigh D and a penalty corner was awarded. Bethan injects the ball in for Gemma Phelps to collect outside the D and sends it back to Bethan who placed the ball into the net and puts in Wrexham’s 2nd goal in the 62nd minute. Both sides worked hard to attack but the game remained a 3-2 win for Denbigh the away side
