MDVLP 1-2 Oxton 4 (h)
Hi and welcome to our first game of the season against Oxton 4s. We welcome some new faces to our team, Dan Heaton and Keir Reid, making their debuts. Also, with a number of players absent, we borrowed three players from Oxton.
So with Oxton starting the game playing around the back, Wrexham closed them down quickly, getting the ball in midfield with Gaz and Andy passing it between them for Wrexham to gain a short corner, resulting in a shot just wide from Keir as the game progressed. Oxton put Wrexham’s defence under pressure, but Franklyn and Olly clearing their lines, then had a spell with Franklyn firing some awesome bouncing balls down the middle, which managed to get to Simon who swept it just wide of the post. As time ticked on, Oxton had a break which resulted in a short corner for them, which was taken but a brilliant save from Dan H only for the rebound to land to an Oxton player who took it away, making it 1-0 Oxton. Wrexham restarted the game with some good play down the wing with Gaz P one side and Keir the other. Wrexham managed to get into the Oxton D a few times but with no reward, and that’s halftime. So with Wrexham starting the second half after a good chat, there went straight on the attack with Gaz P running with the ball down the left, cutting in and laying the ball off to Simon to hit his shot straight at the GK, then ran away. As the game went on, Oxton had a few chances themselves again. Andy and Franklyn kept them at bay eventually. Wrexham found their equaliser with some good interplay from Gaz R and Dave (Oxton). The ball went to Gaz P who swiped it past the Oxton GK, making it 1-1 with Wrexham heads up. Wrexham had a few more chances with some excellent runs from Keir and Gaz P into the D, then passing into Simon who’s touch wasn’t up to scratch. As we got into the final quarter, the weather was rather warm and tiredness creeping in. Wrexham conceded another from open play, making it 2-1. Oxton had a couple more plays for both teams but a special mention to Dan H for an excellent save diving through the air to save a shot, but that was it, game ending 2-1 to Oxton.

MOTM goes to Keir, never stopped running and excellent defence from Franklyn.
A special mention to Gaz P, finally got a well-taken goal for all his effort today?
